TODAY IS THE DAY! My mountain man is beginning his hike along The Pacific Crest Trail.
For those of you who have no idea what the Pacific Crest Trail is, it is a hiking trail that runs from the border of Mexico and the US to the border of Canada and the US along the Sierra Nevada and Cascade Mountains. Its name is the Pacific Crest Trail and it is a total of 2,600 miles end to end.
My boyfriend/mountain man/love of my life is going to leave me to fulfill one of his many dreams to hike this trail from Los Angeles, California to Seattle, Washington where he will then fly home to be in my loving arms once more. Can you tell that I am going to miss him dearly? Well I am.... but I am very super excited for him to be living a dream and doing something spectacular that makes life worth living. He left on his plane today, will start hiking tomorrow, and won't return until just before he is a groom's man in his cousin Jade's wedding November 9th. He is starting out hiking for a couple weeks with my brother and I can't wait to hear all about their time out there together!
In order to help myself cope with him being gone, I have taken up a new job requiring me to work nights and weekends when I would usually be spending time with Logan, finding time to hang out with friends one last semester before it is off to student-teaching land, and creating update posts on my blog to show you and me his progress. In order to make it spectacular and fun, I have joined TripTracker.net to bring you updates on Logan's location day by day. I will have a widget (blogging term for "picture" or "box") on the side of my blog that displays a map of Logan's location (as I enter it manually) and some stories and comments that I hear from him.
We have a plan of me mailing him resupply boxes at local towns along the way where he will stop long enough to either mail me a letter or postcard or make a phone call. I will cherish those times and make sure my phone is on and loud! When I get information I will be sure to pass it on to you.
Feel free to follow along on his hike along with me!
Here are some pictures of the first two resupply boxes that I have already sent to him. I sent them earlier this week before I left for Houston and hopefully they will arrive to him in one piece. Inside each one is a variety of things including: toothpaste, brownies, Snickers, oatmeal, maps, Ramen Noodles, a card from me, some extra spending cash, trail mix, chapstick, etc. I drove down to Houston with his duffel bag filled with his backpack, sleeping bad, trekking poles, and hiking boots. I dropped him off at the airport and can't wait to hear all about his adventures!
